  • 2015 Conservation Award, Agricultural Implementation, Appreciation and recognition of outstanding protection and stewardship of our Natural Resources.

  • 2009 Governor Gregoire asked if Tom would take the lead on the Samish Watershed Initiative.

  • 2015 Governor Inslee made Tom’s Ranch a showcase of sustainability in Agriculture. 100 Local, State, Federal, Tribal, Climate, and Environmental Scientists met at my ranch and we discussed my ability to get people to come together on the Samish Watershed for stewardship of our environment. We exchanged ideas on how what I have gotten done might help them in their work on environmental issues around the country.  

  • Blanchard Mountain Trust Land Transfer, since early 2000’s has been working on saving Blanchard Mountain and Forest.  

  • In 2012 Tom was asked to speak on the coal trains at Skagit Valley College and Seattle, WA.

  • Tom was asked to meet and discuss the Coal Train issues with Van Jones, a member of President Obama’s Special Advisor for Green Jobs. We were able to have a robust comprehensive conversation for an hour the coal train issue and cherry point terminal.  

  • As a private citizen, Tom spearheaded legislative efforts to create a state program that fosters the next generation of farmers into science backed environmentally sustainable agriculture practices.

  • Led the effort to pass legislation on property tax current use valuation programs on agricultural land.

  • In 2010, Tom was asked to work on the Affordable Care Act throughout Washington State.

  • As a nonprofit leader, Tom has raised millions of dollars as an auctioneer for Non-Profits.

  • He volunteers his Auctioneering for Skagit County Democrats annual Gala and Auction, and his auctioneering and MC for the Eleanor Roosevelt dinner of the Whatcom County Democrats each year.

  • He is President and Founder of the non-profit program Leadership, Education and Advanced Development (LEAD), which connects professional athletes and community leaders with at risk youth to mentor them in developing leadership skills.

  • Washington State Democrats Central Committee–16 years as officer, Co-Chair of the Eastern Washington Committee

  • 10 years on the Washington State Democrats’ Elections Committee

  • Past Chair and Co–Founder of the Washington State Democrats’ Rural Ag Caucus
